The House that John Whyte built. Est. 1960’s

145 Ocean Walk

After purchasing the Pines Yacht Club and Botel with partners model John Whyte eventually bought them all out, then owning it all on his own. It was time to build his castle in the sand, and yes it had to have an ocean view. It would survive Hurricane Donna of 1962 as others got washed away. Home to the sounds of Opera, food, friends, and famous guests, but most of all the memories of a time gone by…

Pickering 1966

John guarded the Pines and his privacy in a then world, like a lion.

Everything about the home was grand. Just like John himself…

1967

The home had a prominent address at 145 Ocean Walk

The home was not designed by any noted architect, but still had a unique design

Like the man himself…

The entreway had a grand feeling. 1970’s-80’s.

John would house many from the Fashion Shows of the 70’s & 80’s

The house would guest many celebrities, from Actor Rock Hudson to Poet Rod McKuen.

Its Ocean facing facade was just as grand as the entry.

After Johns death in 2004 the house would sell and undergo renovations by architect Nicholas Politis.

After a Nor’Easter storm in 2018 the pool was lost, and the deck and pool have since been redesigned.

This home is for rent with most of the Island Realtors.
