The Dolly Parton look-alike Contest- Cherry Grove 1978.

The Dolly Parton look alike contest was part of the annual Cherry Grove Fair. Community events like this give Cherry Grove its unique history.

Dolly Parton

is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, actress, author, businesswoman, and philanthropist, known primarily for her work in country music.

She has joined the ranks of Barbra,Bette, and Cher as another single named gay icon. It was held in front of the Monster where the volleyball tournament happens. In a simpler time a homespun event like this brought community together for fun and laughter.

Entrants included Drag Queen Terri Warren who earlier played a role in our history when she was turned away from the Blue Whale by owner John Whyte therefore creating the Invasion in 1976.

Eighteen contestants including one female took part, and fun was had by all.
